There is just something so special about celebrating with family and friends on Nantucket. Emily and Gavin were married on island last fall and guests were treated to all the couples’ island favorites! A seaside ceremony complete with their adorable dog, the traditional cannon fire to mark sunset, New England raw bar and of course, Downyflake Doughnuts late night! So fun! We loved hitting all their favorite island spots for portraits and of course, the docks at the Great Harbor Yacht Club make for a breathtaking backdrop!
Emily and Gavin we hope the years ahead bring you all your favorite things both on and off the island! Cheers to you both!
Yay! Let’s talk family group photos! It sure does seem like this is always an area of stress for couples and a concern for the wedding timeline. We know that these photos are so super important to you but we also know that they do not need to be the main focus for your photography. We thought it would be good to share how we approach family photos so our couples and families are never feeling stressed or missing out on the celebration!
Step 1: We communicate with you BEFORE your wedding day! We talk about who your family is (by first name of course), all the different groups we will be photographing and where your photos will take place; minimal walking and a non distracting background in the shade is always our favorite. So on your wedding day, you don’t have to worry or try to remember any of this and we can be super efficient.
Step 2: We have a system. We organize our photo list in advance so there are minimal moving parts. This keeps us all moving quickly and gets everyone off to the celebration quickly. We like to keep our family group portraits to 10 minutes or less. Sounds good right?
Step 3: Keep it simple. Let’s talk about what photos you will actually want. Don’t use that check list you found someplace! Your wedding isn’t a checklist kinda event! Who are your people?! What photos do you want to display in your home or include in your album? Are you (or your parents) sending a holiday card or thank you cards and want a photo? You do not, I repeat, you do not need to do a million different combinations of groups. Let’s focus on what is most important and get to the celebration! Because that right there is where we get to capture all those candid moments and where you get to have a cocktail.
September might just be my most favorite time to be on Island. The pace is just a little bit slower, the summer busy season has come to an end but the beaches are still stunning, the restaurants are all still open and there are so many wonderful wedding celebrations taking place! Rebecca and Peter had planned their Nantucket wedding thinking about how to best showcase the island in all it’s glory! I just loved the classic style of these two and how they embraced all the island has to offer (even if that’s fog!). We traveled to Sconset for photos, walked right through town for a few more and ended with guests at the Nantucket Yacht Club right on the harbor. The big hit of the day, when the newlyweds fired off the yacht clubs cannon to signal the start of dinner! Now that is one way to kick off a party! Rebecca and Peter we hope all your milestones together come with this kind of excitement!
These two know how to kick off their Wedding reception with a BANG!
Nothing could be as special as having your favorite people by your side as you are about to marry the love of your life. Whether your wedding party is made up of siblings or friends these people have been by your side through so much and are now supporting you for one of the biggest moments of your life. We love seeing the relationships our couples share with their wedding party and capturing the laughter, smiles, excitement and silliness for them to relive for a lifetime.
Fall is my favorite time of year on Nantucket. The island settles down from the busy Summer rush of visitors but the weather is still so beautiful! The island breeze turns crisp and it’s perfect for cozy snuggling, walking hand in hand and for a veil on your wedding day! Susanna and Morgan incorporated so many amazing details into their wedding that just echoed that classic Nantucket vibe. My favorite being their island classic, Jeep Wagoneer for a getaway car. The island is chock full of well loved Jeeps and I am sure this one has plenty of stories to share! It’s wedding touches like this that are so personal and tell me so much about the couple. Susanna and Morgan we had an amazing time photographing your island wedding and hope you always appreciate those simple little details just like you did on your wedding day. Oh! And Susanna, I think your wedding ceremony entrance will go down in the books for the most breathtaking. Seriously breathtaking.
When your family and friends travel from all over the globe to celebrate with you it’s something very, very special. When I asked Emily and Erik what they were most looking forward to on their wedding day they said being surrounded by and celebrating with their family and friends. Every detail of this day was planned out with love and affection for not just the bride and groom but everyone in attendance. You could feel the joy fill the little chapel in Sconset and the energy and excitement was apparent in each toast and of course on the dance floor! Emily and Erik, we hope all your days are filled with the same joy and love and that your travels always bring you back to Nantucket! Cheers! or shall we say Cin Cin!!!!
If you could place an order for your perfect wedding day weather you would be ordering up what Molly and Travis had for their Nantucket wedding. Blue bird skies with a soft ocean breeze (perfect for Molly’s veil!) it was just spectacular! But if you know these two then you would want nothing short of spectacular for them on their big day. The energy, excitement and love that filled the room when these two entered was something special.
Molly and Travis left some time after their ceremony to visit some of the islands most picturesque location. We loved visiting Main Street, Cobble Stone Hill, Brant Point and a few little spots in between with them and their families. It was so fun to take our time and get to know the whole wedding party along the way! And pretty darn amazing to have all this time for photos!!!!
Cheers to you Molly and Travis! We hope that the rest of your lives together are just as amazing as your wedding day was.
